Rebecca Lobo maligned the host city of Albany during the N.C.A.A. women’s basketball tournament between Iowa and LSU, saying during the TV broadcast, “Good luck finding something to do in Albany.”

Residents of the city were outraged at Lobo’s comment, claiming that the former basketball player needs to “grab a fishing pole and get up here.” The city’s mayor, Kathy Sheehan, defended Albany vehemently on social media, posting “We have two bowling alleys, a diner, and at least four jukeboxes in town to entertain visitors, and we plan to add a Cheese Factory soon. Show me a major American city that offers more.”

Mayor Sheehan says that she is so happy with the progress her city is making, “we plan to add a ballot measure in the next election naming Albany the new capital of New York State. We’re very confident it will pass.”

Note: The author of this article was just informed that Albany already is the capital of New York State.
